Rethinking railway-vehicle intersections

The recent minibus taxi accident at Blackheath in Cape Town, claimed the lives of 10 young people when the taxi driver recklessly drove through a railway crossing – when the boom was down. It’s since been reported that five of six railway crossings in the Stellenbosch area do not have booms. How can our public transport infrastructure work better to ensure the safety of it’s citizens? How can we turn the irresponsible road conduct of SA drivers around? Can you rethink railway-vehicle intersections? As a matter of urgency.
