The 2nd of June 2010, marked the birth of Phuthaditjaba Early Childhood Development (ECD) at the Centre of Excellence in Alexandra Township.

“We have four classes of different age groups; we have a 2-3 year class called ‘Teddy Bears’; a 3-4 year called ‘Rabbits’; a 4-5 year Grade R class called Lions, and a 5-6 year class – we call them ‘Tigers’. Our children, who are still part of our ECD and those who graduated to Grade 1, have with our assistance, developed physically and emotionally and are showing a lot of improvement”, said ECD deputy principal, Anne Kariuki.

Phuthaditjaba ECD has attracted a lot of donors and sponsors worldwide and as a result, the fee at R150 per month is affordable compared to other ECD’s around Alexandra. They also help pay for Phuthaditjaba’s orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). This includes trips, birthdays and cinema outings.
