Overview of the idea:
Too many cars on the road cause traffic. Too many cars on the road cause unnecessary pollution and unnecessary costs. Too many cars on the road cause too many problems, full stop. The Super Human Game is an attempt to create more awareness in peoples’ daily routines and how they can be changed through correct economic thinking in order to improve their own lives as well as those of their communities.
What inspired the idea?
When back in Johannesburg driving home in TRAFFIC, and only seeing one person per car, it made me wonder how different things would be if South Africa was more efficient with its resources. Particularly one that is not within its borders, namely, oil.
How will the game idea positively impact S.A?
By instilling into citizens’ (players’) minds, to have more than one driver per car, thereby decreasing their personal transportation costs and decreasing the impact of pollution via carbon emissions. The game allows society (players) to easily see how a small change in their everyday activities can change the circumstances of the entire population.
How will it work?
The aim of the game is to group images (cities) together. In essence you are collecting people together that all want to go to a particular destination, via the same means of transportation, namely, by carpooling.
EG: Answer 446: Cash saved = R500, GDP $500 bn. Joburg is cleaner!
- The player will at any time have three different cities to sort on their screen (via text or icons).
- The player is required to count the number of pictures or names of each city and type the results as fast as possible. This can be done in any given order. As is shown in the example above with 4 suns, 6 hearts and 6 smilie faces. (This can be answered in any order, but SPEED and ACCURACY is of the essence.)
- By getting the figures correct, the player receives points which decrease transport costs as well as pollution. Players who do this at a faster speed will acquire more points.
- As the player progresses the the groupings of cities (icons) become harder to add together as they are dispersed rather than grouped together as is the case in the easier levels.
- After a period of play, players will acquire enough points so that GDP increases, allowing them to purchase goods and services (cars etc.) as well as live in a cleaner environment with fresh streams etc.
EG: Answer 556: Cash saved = R1580, GDP $936 bn. New Prize!
The idea is to indirectly get players to think about what a difference they can make in their daily lives by giving some thought to how one gets from A to B.
Increased GDP increases the Human Development Index. (GDP means more goods and services, and HDI means less pollution more clean rivers and parks to play in, etc.)
