I am a successful dropout of two universities, the University of KwaZulu Natal and UJ, the University of Johannesburg; therefore I know and understand the reason why people drop out of university.
It took me four years to develop a receipt to succeed at university. I am doing my final semester now at CIDA CITY CAMPUS, a business university.
In 2009 I started an NPO with my friends to help apply my receipt of how to succeed at university. We are working with many communities, churches and schools around KwaZulu Natal, focusing on education and entrepreneurship.
I want to help reduce the level of university dropouts. I have conducted some research and have found that dropping out stems all the way to families and communities, and does not only manifest at the university level. I have developed a model to connect students from high school and university to people who are working. This will help high school students to be mentored by university students and university students to be mentored by people in the corporate world.
I want to build a website that will combine motivation, study materials, online tutors, sms’s, and links to many useful websites that are helpful to students from rural areas. On it, I will put concrete, accessible and enlightening information, which will allow an instant interaction between mentors and mentees.
This website will be dedicated to exploring and expanding student awareness and potential. It will focus on empowering individuals and communities as well as contributing to transforming both micro and macro social dynamics in communities. The website will activate educational opportunities in students and mentors, as both groups will learn from each other.
The website will be professional and easy to use, and will have:
- Full user admin
- Multiple profile
- Chat
- Groups
- Forums
- Messaging
- Blogs
- API for mobile
- Full Security
- Fan pages
- Integration with social networks
I am working with many students from different universities and high schools, including youth from different communities. I use corporate employees to mentor my students to make sure that they achieve good results. This process is slow and costly that is why I think websites will be cheap and save time for both students and mentors. My idea has proven to be effective and produced good results, but I need to expand and reach more people with hope and love.
