Electronic Sensor

I would like to address the throw away culture of electronic products and introduce a new industry as a solution to e-waste.

Imagine a microchip or some small electronic sensor that could be placed entirely in a new product at manufacturing level or could even be connected to existing electronic products. It mainly does the following :

  1. Monitors ideal working conditions of the product set at the factory and compares these to conditions due to usage.
  2. The electronic sensor should also detect usage by calculating the number of hours a product has been in use and should give the user the option to turn it off, to lengthen product life by displaying on the screen .
  3. Allow turn on of a control system that tries to keep conditions close to factory conditions.
  4. This electronic sensor will be wired in such a way that it allows for a display on the screen for tv’s, laptops, phones and a beep sound for radios and camera.
  5. Now this is the cool part: After ‘half life’ of product it should display on computer screen “PLEASE RETURN TO PRODUCT STORE”, and give a ‘beep beep’ sound for other electronic systems.

Hi Fi Corp (or other certified dealers of digital equipment), will open up the product and the main components, which if failed, would result in system failure and hence throw away will be replaced.

If product wear-out is close, there should be a trade-in system at the purchase store and it should allow for a discount on the next purchase based on the product cost at the time of purchase. This will reduce the throw away culture because of discount at product store.
