University drop outs are usually caused by lack of exposure and knowledge with regards to both funding and educational opportunities and knowledge of one self.
I strongly believe in the power of exposure, self-discovery and the embracing of one’s passion. My project helps empower and expose young individuals about the possibilies that lie out there. This involves bombarding areas with information about the different funding available as well as the different academic institutions.
When it comes to choosing courses to study at varsity, I strongly believe that young people should be given a two week trial in those courses and given a chance to change if they feel like it’s not what they are passionate about. Most exclusions take place because youngsters end up studying something they are not passionate about.
As the philosopher Socrates said: “Know thyself”, I think that a programme called ‘Know Thyself’ should be put into place to link varsity coursework to the youth’s personality. This program involves the merging of university material and explanations thereof, and the individual’s goals and dreams.
Being good at maths doesn’t guarantee that one will love doing actuarial science. This project is based on the psychological well being of the youth as an individual, and not the mass population as a whole. I have experienced that being good at something does not mean you love it, because when the going gets tough, you will have no motivation, no subconscious voice telling you to go on because it’s not something your heart truly desires, leading you to give up easily and fail.
I am proud to say that I have found my passion. Every lecture is a learning tool for me, and I’m just glad I realised it early in life. I wish to help other youngsters in their quest to make it in this life.
