0 viewsThe crime rates for the Western Cape might have mostly gone up this year, compared to the ratings from last year, but the Province, as well as the country can take a page out of the Strand Police Department’s book.
The Strand SAPS has been working very closely with the Community Police Forum to help lower the crime rates around the Strand District.
A drop in crime does not just happen overnight, it takes hard work and a compassionate police staff.
Building up a relationship with the community is ideal for lowering crime rates. Most crimes are reported in by normal-day people walking about the streets. If all Police Departments can implement structures allowing the community to feel like they are playing a part in securing safety in their towns, not only will the community start feeling more proud about their town, but along with that, the crime rates will slowly start decreasing.
Summer is around the corner, the beaches in most areas have already started filling up with people. Beaches create a perfect environment for crime. If the community know that they can contact the police, reporting any crime, or suspicious looking people, with their reports actually being checked up on, this will make them feel a great deal more comfortable enjoying a sunny day out.
A major problem still facing Western Cape is drug abuse as well as drug related crimes. This is one of the few things that increased this year for the Strand. The police hope that by working together alongside the community they will manage to lower the number of drug related incidents. There has already been a number of children coming forward to the Strand Police, admitting they have a problem and asking for help.
