In the lead up to Cape Town’s Month of Photography (MOP5), this month’s assignment, open to all aspirant photographers (amateurs or pros), is to submit a collection of 5 – 10 photographs portraying your community in a positive light.
Showcase ordinary people, leaders, entrepreneurs, cultural events, sports heroes, architectural masterpieces, homegrown businesses, etc. Make sure you caption every photo.
The winner will have the chance to attend a photojournalistic workshop with Croatian photojournalist Sasa Kralj on the 3 October. Sada Kralj has taught photojournalism and worked for Reuters, The New York Times, AFP, Business Week, The Guardian, Gotteborg Posten, and Sudswenska Dagbladett.
Cape Town’s Month of Photography, which takes place from 27 September – 31 October, created by the South African Centre for Photography, is the most extensive Photographic culture event in South Africa, now in its 5th presentation. “It exhibits still and moving images in bodies of work created by the current top photographers and artists of the country as well as those in historical archives and currently on the international photography scene. It offers educational components including exhibition walkabouts, workshops, master classes, seminars and social events that gear towards the culture seeker, the lay photographer, the amateur, the apprentice, the professional, academic, curator and the collector, servicing many layers of attraction for all.
