0 viewsThe Afrika Tikkun organisation in Alexandra hosted Usher’s New Look Foundation workshop on Thursday 8th of March. The event is part of Usher’s mission to give back to local communities as he tours South Africa. The event was attended by youth of Alexandra Township, former Miss South Africa 2011 Bokang Montjane, director of Usher’s New Look Foundation, Beth Pan and representatives from Afrika Tikkun.
Ushers New Look Foundation was founded in 1999 by Usher Raymond and his mother. Their mission is to satisfy youth in four pillars; education, talent, career and service. “We travel around the country and throughout The States and explain the importance of giving back to the community. This is our first time in South Africa and we are very excited to be here,” said Pan at the gathering.
With a strong attendance of youth leadership, Pan felt “so welcomed and …overwhelmed by the generosity of people here. There was so much energy (and) enthusiasm and we can really see in a short time … the rising leaders from this organisation.”
Jakayla dills (17), a singer and public speaker for Usher’s New Look Foundation who performed at the event said, “My main message that I want to pass on is that it’s never too late to be a leader and there is no age limit.”
