Renowned spiritual guru leads 2000 in meditation

Universally renowned spiritual guru, humanitarian leader and inspirational speaker, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was invited to open the International Peace Centre in Cape Town on the 27th August.

Shankar, born in southern India, has reached over 25 million people worldwide through his Art of Living Foundation which teaches the Sudarshan Kriya. This is a powerful breathing technique that facilitates physical, emotional and an all rounded social well-being.

“In sleep we get rid of fatigue, but the deeper stresses remain in our body. Sudarshan Kriya cleanses the system from the inside. The breath has a great secret to offer,” said Shankar.

The International Peace Centre and the Art of Living Foundation will help impoverished areas and communities by holding teaching sessions and building schools. The centre “will be a place which will inspire many, with a key ingredient for peace, love, joy and bliss which is often overlooked or taken for granted,” he explained.

The proceeds of his 2000 strong meditation session held at the CRC Christian Church on August 28th will go towards the centre.

“He’s helped to empower…societies that were poverty stricken and didn’t feel as though they had any value in their lives,” said Michelle Bush, an avid follower of Shankar.
