Global photographic art project hits SA on Mandela Day

To celebrate Mandela Day on July 18th, Lalela Project, a local organisation focused on empowering disadvantaged youth through the arts, launched an action campaign to address racism between two communities of Hout Bay, Imizamo Yethu, a black community, and Hangberg, a coloured community.

The organisation was inspired by a global photographic art project called INSIDE OUT, which aims to bridge racial and religious divides and bring communities together.

Over several days, the youth of both communities came together to photograph each other and display their dual images on the walls of their respective houses, as well as on the walls of Cape Town’s Civic Centre and on kiosk roofs on The Parade.
