The idea is to assign students with online and physical ‘’mentor-buddies’’ which will give them access to relevant information, from finance to how to compile a timetable. We propose using social media platforms to enable the mentor-buddy to correspond with students.
The roles of the mentor buddy would be to:
- Inform students about the funding system and how long it takes to receive bursaries and loans
- Give an honest opinion about university life
- Give the students necessary contact numbers and people who can be contacted in emergencies
- Use the likes of Facebook for example to liaise with and invite students to voice their concerns
- Advertise (using posters, etc) the right people to ‘’talk to’’ at university
- Liaise with the university in order to help within departments
- Advise students academically and with emotional support
