Mentoring Organisation

South Africa has young talented and intelligent individuals, who will one day be the leaders of this country. This can only happen if the necessary attention is given to those individuals.

Education is the most vital thing that one can possess in this life. It is therefore why each person is in the pursuit of that education. No-one can take it away from them. However, there are obsticles which do interfere with the goals and dreams that one sets themselves. The dreams start from an early age and so does their education.

From a pre-school level a child’s educational welfare is born and should be catered to, until they reach a level of where they are ready to start earning a living. It is a constant battle between government and youth getting the education they need and deserve.

Just a few weeks ago a school in the Eastern Cape did not have the necessary facilities for the pupils to be taught in. All they were asking for were mobile classes before school re-opened and still there was no response. We’re in the middle of Autumn approaching Winter – will these learners be educated outside in the cold and rain? How much longer should they have to wait? Not having classes is not the only issue, as other provinces have problems with transport. Certain children live far away from their schools so transport is needed for them to get to school on time and be safe on the road.

There is also a battle amongst the preparation of matrics who aspire to pursue a tertiary education. Problems with this is that not many students are informed about the careers they want to follow. Some do not even know the admission requirements to enter University, Technikon, FET College etc. Others do not have funds to go to school. It is therefore important to inform students of their options.

Options such as applying for a bursary, student loans, working and saving to go back to school, taking a gap year and researching what it is that one really wants to study. Also within those options, finding out what they entail after completing one’s studies. The school owes it to the students to keep them motivated and informed as to what they need for their futures. Without this being done, many students will drop out of varsity for reasons such as: lack of understanding the work, poor performance and lack of finances, etc

Mentoring Organisation

This organisation is for the youth of South Africa to get help and advice when they need it. It is an organisation that wil have trained staff in the fields of career counsellors, mentors, motivational speakers and psychologists. These qualified individuals will avail themselves to help build what the students already have within them.

Vision: I would like to see an establishment for youth where they get the necessary information they need:

Seeing the youth of South Africa making their dreams come true and creating leaders; Bringing back dignity into education and maintaining it for future years; Being able to speak to every school from disadvantaged backgrounds; Having workshops at all schools

Mission: To build self-confidence within every individual and promote self-development; To enhance skills that will equip them for varsity, e.g. using a computer, writing an assignment, etc; To encourage the youth to break the stigma about their background, financial situation, the school which they come from; To bring in qualified stakeholders to hold sessions that will help these young people go forth into their bright futures. In order for everything to work, the community is needed to support and get involved in the furture of their children.

Key values: Believing and instilling the value that evey young person has the potential, and that ideas and dreams really do come true; Creating the necessary opportunities for one to know themselves and what they are willing to do about their future; Getting external stakeholders to encourage the youth futher, this is in terms of mentors, motivational speakers, prospective universities/colleges/technikon, bursary organisations etc.

Goals: To try and reach as many students as possible; To make them realise it’s never too late to get an education, everything and anything is possible if they just put their mind to it.

Primary goal: Start with the most disadvataged schools in all the provinces, especially in the location/township. Motivate and mentor these students until they get to university level. This would also help with job creation

Secondary goal: For this program or organisation to spread all over the provinces; To create/produce great leaders and improve pass results

Objectives: Targeting high schools in townships as some are at a disadvantage of getting information about the varsity they are interested in, including financial information. Specific targets are Grade 11 and 12. Creating jobs for the umnemployed in the fields that will be assisting in the organisation. Finding the appropriate area/place to establish this organisation and make the most of the organisations abilities to make a difference in the lives of the youth

Target market:

• Various location schools
• Matrics and lower high school grades
• Community kids (those that have matriculated but do not have a sense of direction)

Aim: To get over the stigma that learner’s who attend town schools are better than other schools or learner’s. Building confidence that everyone has the potential to be whta they dream to be. Also build community and school support system.

Motivational speakers: Motivational speaking happens once a term as the students start a new school term. The plan is to have various universities in the country come to the schools and for the learners to be aware of the opportunities that are available to them, as well as bursary organisations, non-profit organisations, the NYDA etc. The speakers are people who will promote a lifestyle for those learner’s, something for them to look forward to in their lives. Also involving the parents and community to help maintain building young leaders to their full potential.

Outcome: There youth will be ready for the future that lies ahead of them and they will in turn give back what they have learnt to those that follow after them.
