Splash

The idea of this game came about because many South Africans, both children and adults do NOT know how to swim, they are scared of the water and they are at a high risk of drowning.

In todays world, knowing how to swim isn’t an option anymore as there is an ocean open freely to the public, not to mention dams and swimming pools. Swimming is a skill every single person in South Africa should be able to do. It should be as natural as walking. People don’t have to be the next Chad le Clos but they do need to know how to get into a pool, swim safely, know what to be careful of, and know what to do when they or someone else is in danger.

The aim of this game is to develop or better your swimming skills and with Splash this can be achieved. Splash takes into account what you will or have learn’t in the pool and allow you to re-enact them in the game. Through this game a person who can’t swim can learn the basics of swimming, understand water, learn how to behave around pools or the sea and what to do and who to call when someone is in trouble. This will all be achieved through a basic mobile/Mxit game that many people who cannot swim have access to.

How to play this game:

  • Using your scroll key select the Splash icon on you phone.
  • Select ‘new game’ to start playing – the game will automatically take you to your last level achieved. There is no skipping levels, and each level requires a different task.
  • At the top of the screen – it will tell you through words and sound what needs to be achieved to move on.
  • You have to complete a level to be able to move on to the next one.
  • The aim of each level is different – some might be time framed – if you make the time you can move on. Some might be understanding the concept of the swimming skill, eg: breathing, some might be based on getting the rule right in order to move onto the next level.
  • Once you have moved on, you are allowed to go back and recap what you have learnt if you wish to do so.
  • Splash also checks your recently acquired knowledge by recapping it through levels later on in the game.
  • You cannot fail this game; there are no set amount of lives. However you will have 3 chances to get it right or a set time frame and if you cannot get it right or complete it within the time frame, you will have to start that level from the beginning again.

Splash will be simple to use and fun. It will help you learn the basics of swimming by virtual practice so that you don’t become a drowning statistic – but rather the best swimmer ever. Happy swimming!
