World leaders in digital media descend on Cape Town

The sixth annual DCI (Digital Citizens Indaba) was held at the CTICC
in September, and saw world’s leaders in digital media come to Cape Town to present and debate. The conference was focused on the continent of Africa, and the role of social media and mobile technology in Africa. Delegates included bloggers, citizen journalists, ‘hacktivists’, media practitioners and industry experts.

The DCI facilitated discussions around social justice, civil society
and digital media, technology and social change. Questions like ‘how
free is the internet?’, ‘how secure is our information?’, ‘what measure do we take to ensure online freedom of expression?’ and ‘what rights do we have to privacy?’ were pertinent at the conference, and much insight was gained through the range of delegates. The speakers were excellent, and the discourse initiated was truly informative and inspiring.
